There was drama in the middle of a busy highway on Wednesday afternoon in Nairobi as police were forced to draw guns in an attempt to serve Jimi Wanjigi with court order.

In a video that Nairobi News, is in possession of, heavily armed officers are seen stopping the wealthy businessman’s car along Museum Hill and ordering him to get out of the vehicle.

A defiant Wanjigi however defies the orders and a standoff ensues bringing the busy road to a standstill as the officers block both sides of the road.

Wanjigi stays put inside his car as several armed officers in plainclothes brandish their weapons openly.

In the end, the officers are left with no other choice than to paste the court order on Wanjigi’s windscreen before leaving.

The court order summons Mr Wanjigi to appear before the Chief Magistrates court in Nyeri to take a plea in criminal case no 251 of 2018 on Thursday 1 March.

FIREARMS RECOVERY

Wanjigi, who is a close ally of Nasa leader Raila Odinga, has had several run-ins with the police in the last several months.

In September last year, police stormed his Muthaiga home breaking doors with axes and metal cutters, while on a mission recover firearms from the businessman.

The High Court would later grant the city billionaire an anticipatory bail of Sh 50,000 and directed that he should not be arrested until October 19.

The court also ordered that police should not commit any action of destruction of property on Mr Wanjigi’s houses, businesses and office.

In February this year, Mr Wanjigi was forced to spend the night at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after a nasty encounter with Immigration officers.

Immigration officials blocked Mr Wanjigi and Siaya Senator James Orengo from flying to Zimbabwe where they were scheduled to attend the burial of the country’s opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
